Plenty of Fish… *crystal* fish!

Karen N. of Downingtown, PA, ordered her jewelry from me in February for her March wedding. She contacted me when her jewelry arrived:

“Wow, thank you Amy!

I LOVE your stuff!!  My jewelry is so pretty it made me cry!  Not kidding! I told my brother about your site so he can order something for his girlfriend, and I told my wedding planner… I’m telling everyone!

Separately, I have a very strange request.  I am wondering with your skill set if you could do something custom for me… but it isn’t really jewelry. Would you be interested in entertaining the prospect of making two fish for me?  I know this sounds bizarre but I can explain…”

Karen went on to explain that she and her future husband had met on an online dating site called “Plenty of Fish”. She wanted to have two crystal fish to incorporate into her wedding cake!

She wanted two fish (with eye colors to match her and her fiance’s eyes) to suspend inside the “bowl” separator tier between the cake layers.  Now I’ve never made fish out of Swarovski crystals before, but I wanted to help Karen out. We had both looked online and couldn’t find any fish that she liked for the cake. So… here they are! Karen’s two crystal fish! And yes, they are smooching. 🙂 That was Karen’s idea. I think it was a really good one!

Susan’s custom colors

A lot of what we do here is during the week is working with brides on color combinations to coordinate with their bridesmaids dresses. Some girls are brave enough to order on their own without our advice (and they do a great job!) and others want to be sure they get it right the first time, so they order color samples or send swatches. We actually love receiving swatches in the mail and being asked to work the colors out, because there are so many ways to style the jewelry around the dresses/wedding colors and it’s really fun to be  a part of that!

I wanted to show you an example of a bride who sent in swatches last month. Susan H. knew what she wanted but sent in swatches just to be sure. In her case, one of the swatches didn’t quite match the color she had guessed, but NONE of our listed colors did! So we hunted down a hard-to-find Swarovski color that was exactly right for the “jade” swatch and special ordered it for her. Here are some images!

Susan was so organized with her swatches! She made it so easy for us to keep track of what she needed and who’s dress was what color! We were working with Alfred Angelo’s glass green,  pool and jade.Susan wanted to mix the dress color with pacific blue opal in all five of the Anna II necklaces she ordered. The pacific opal would tie them all together.  For the glass green, we did pacific opal with erinite. The pool blue went with pacific opal and indicolite, and for the jade, we ordered “light emerald” and mixed it in with the pacific opal and it worked perfectly!

The crystal ab drops reflected all of the colors really nicely and lightened up the necklaces a little. I love these pieces and can’t wait to see photos of them in context of Susan’s wedding!

Michelle’s custom designs

I’ve been working with Michelle H., of Minnesota, on some custom jewelry and hair accessories for her wedding dress. She wanted a comb and necklace that would be better quality that what she was finding elsewhere, and sent me several images of styles she liked. Here are the pieces so far!

A vintage-inspired arrangement of oval, round and marquise rhinestones on a 1″ comb. I’m thinking of adding a version with beautiful goose biot feathers off to the side…. (the long skinny feathers!).. but I also want to add these combs by themselves.
